Turkey’s historical “identity crisis”

Known to many as the “bridge between the east and the west,” Turkey has an interesting geopolitical position. With war spilling into Turkey’s national boundaries, Turkish foreign minister Ahmet Davutoglu is calling for international intervention in Syria. The country has even recently teamed up with Egypt to increase the call for peace.

But what makes Turkey’s position unique? Emirhan Yorulmazlar, a Turkish scholar now living in the United States, has spent years growing up in and studying his home country. He says “Turkey’s identity crisis” has had an immense impact on its foreign policy and action.

    Really excellent integration of the radio program into the blog. This gives it a much more legitimate news feel; the length of the radio piece combined with strong content makes an excellent contribution to both the blog post and the site overall.
